Assistive technology for seniors

Updated: Jul 2, 2019

I always encourage seniors to embrace elderly technology and enjoy the benefits that such technology offers, not only in personal security and comfort, but for a greater sense of peace and well-being, and to give caregivers relief from anxiety or worry.

Here are some useful, easily available and affordable options you might want to consider:

1. Medical alert devices: also known as personal emergency response systems, enable users to contact and request assistance in emergency situations from a variety of monitoring centres.

2. Video cameras/web cams: enable real-time virtual environments in which seniors and caregivers can interact as and when desired.

3. Cell phones: choose a simple, user-friendly one with a longer battery life. Make sure the buttons are large enough for them to see and use. Set alarms to remind them of appointments and medications. Consider putting emergency contacts on speed-dial.

4. Free internet games: Learning and retaining cognitive skills doesn't have to be boring. Internet games are available for free at numerous websites on the Internet

Take the time to browse the Internet for free Internet games as well as types of games that may interest your loved one. Caregivers should also take a few minutes out of their day to play a game or two to help keep their brains stimulated and to offer a bit of entertainment during breaks in caregiving!

Do you have a great recommendation or advice for others that are considering Assistive Technologies? Write a comment and read what others are saying...

This is the best thermostat for you because it automatically changes settings according to the amount of time it will take to reach a certain temperature. Its touchscreen display shows all the useful information in a clear and orderly fashion.

Furthermore, its compatibility with various systems immensely lessens the installation process, making it your favourite buddy right from the beginning of your time together.

In order to find more products that you can install in your home yourself, you can check out programmable thermostat under fifty.
